It's been a minute since we've updated, so we thought we might share some quick updates about what we're up to.
New RUM reports
This is the biggest development yet. Shopify released new RUM reports across the entire platform. This time, not only can you see your store's Core Web Vitals, you can customize your reports to do so much more. We're really excited about this and think this is an industry first. We'll be following up with more content on this showing how to take advantage of this incredible tool.
New flagship theme
The highlight of the 2025 Summer Editions was the release of our new flagship theme, Horizon. The new generative AI blocks are the killer new feature, super exciting stuff, even if it makes us as web perf people a little nervous :)
Two new team members
The web perf team has two new members, Estela Franco and Dan Gayle! Both come with years of web performance experience as in-house performance engineers for major corporations, and bring new perspectives and knowledge to the team.
Speculation Rules
For the past year Mateusz and other Shopifolk have been working on introducing the Speculation Rules API to all of Shopify. There have been some bumps along the way, but early results are promising and we've begun rolling out the deployment slowly across stores.
On Wednesday, May 28 at the SPDY meetup in Toronto, Mateusz gave an excellent presentation on our Speculation Rules implementation and the results we're seeing. Highly recommended watching!
Early Hints
Shopify was one of the largest early adopters of HTTP 103 Early Hints, but what has been the long term impact? Estela Franco dug into the data and the results might surprise you. There's a more in-depth article coming up, but if you'd like an early hint about it, check out her presentation at the same SPDY meetup in Toronto.
